New York Bankruptcy Lawyer David ShaevMy first job is to take the fear out of debt by showing you the ways you can climb out of it. I’ve been doing it for over 30 years, and I’m always learning new methods to help you.

I was born and raised in New York, and currently live on Long Island. I know how tough it is to make a living wage here, and how expensive life can be.

If you’re like most of my clients, you’re hard-working and honest. You want to provide for yourself and your family in the best way possible. And you can’t bear the thought of being neck-deep in debt.

You were always taught that good people pay their bills, so you probably feel like you’re not such a good person. Let me tell you this – it’s not true.

Lots of good people get behind on their bills. Bankruptcy is not only legal, but it’s something Congress put together to help people get on with their lives. This isn’t a question of morality – it’s a question of necessity for many people.

If you’ve got bill problems and need help, you deserve to be treated fairly by someone who’s got the skills and experience to get you the help you need and deserve.

That’s why when you sit down to discuss your financial situation with me, you’ll be treated like a human being – not just another case number.

My Educational Background

I received my undergraduate degree at the Ohio University of Athens in 1971, and my law degree from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1974. Since then, I’ve been admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the State of New York.

I am a member of several professional associations, including:

  • Kentucky Bar Association, 1974
  • New York State Bar Association
  • American Bar Association
  • New York State Chairperson, National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys
  • National Association of Consumer Advocates

I have been widely quoted in television, radio and newspaper articles related to bankruptcy, consumer rights issues and legislation. In addition, I’ve appeared as a witness before the Federal Bankruptcy Rules Committee.

Over my career, I’ve successfully confirmed hundreds of Chapter 13 plans, and I maintain a more than 95% confirmation rate for cases filed. I’ve served as the attorney for homeowners in some of the most important bankruptcy cases involving mortgage fraud in New York, consistently working hard to help my clients.
